ASCDP Element 1 - ASEA
In 2009 the Commonwealth Government announced a new scheme called the “Automotive Supply Chain Development Program” or ASCDP, which is part of the New Car Plan for a Greener Future, and provides $20 million to help Automotive suppliers over a three and a half year period.
This scheme continues the work commenced by the ASEA program in 2007, in providing a process to help suppliers to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of their businesses.
The ASCDP consists of three elements. Element 1 will be delivered by AutoCRC via ASEA, and this support is to be provided to Tier One, Two and Three suppliers Australia wide.
The process ASEA will follow consists of a comprehensive upfront company-wide business assessment, from which the supplier will be provided with a benchmark report against global standards, a set of improvement plans and a two year “Progress Map”. As the improvements are implemented, two further assessments will be conducted at yearly intervals, so the progress can be tracked and mapped.
All assessments will be provided free of charge, and all improvement projects implemented through ASEA will be 75% funded, with suppliers paying for 25% of the cost. The Victorian Government has also committed funding to help Victorian suppliers to access the ASCDP program.
The improvement projects will take two distinct forms that being a comprehensive training and coaching project, or a smaller specialist based improvement, all delivered via experienced ASEA approved providers.
In the earlier ASEA Pilot program, 36 improvement projects were implemented across 27 different suppliers. These projects were mainly focused in three areas – strategic business planning, lean enterprise and supply chain management.
New programs will focus on providing support in the areas of financial systems and practices, management and leadership, as well as global sourcing and marketing.
If you are a Tier 1, 2 or 3 supplier to the Australian automotive industry, I strongly encourage you register your interest at ASEA website www.asea.net.au, so we can get you started as soon as possible. Remember that places are limited.
